More Green Groceries...

Dear bloggers, tweeters and readers...

I need your help. One of my Mini Wanna-Greenies is having a terrible problem with, well, let's just get the 4-1-1 on the Number 2, constipation. This poor little tyke has been having a terrible time and although my sweet is now under doctor's care, we have been instructed to eliminate so many things that my cutie-on-duty loves: whole milk, yogurt, rice, applesauce...you get the idea.

So, while the doctor's drugs do the dramatics, what tasty snacks, high(er) in fiber, would you recommend? I am just fresh out of creative ideas - in fact, I get pooped just thinking about it.

My dd had a TERRIBLE problem with it! We even went gluten free for almost a year to rule out celiac! The magic ingredient: Probiotics! We get ours from Shaklee, but if you have a Publix nearby, they make a generic much cheaper. As for snacks, my daughter liked prunes. A little weird, but they helped some. But seriously, the probiotic was a lifesaver!
Thanks for visiting my blog! Nice to "meet" you ;)

Prunes are really yummy if your little one likes dried fruits. Also try others like apricots, figs, dates, mangoes and apple slices. There are also a lot of really lovely homemade granola bar recipes out there and any of these fruits could be added to them. While fruit is excellent fiber, fruits - fresh or dried are hard on the teeth (my dentist has reminded me.) He has suggested very gentle brushing afterward. My fruit addicted daughter is a bit deficient in tooth enamel - bad combination. Also, if you cook or bake a lot try using spelt flour. It seems to be easier on digestion for many people (incl me) and it tastes lovely. I use it in place of white or wheat flour for most things and my family love it too (even my picky son uses it when he does the baking.) There's a brief description of it here http://nutrition.about.com/od/grainsandcereals/p/spelt.htm

not sure why, but i'm not getting your blog updates?? Anyways, mix some prune juice in with oatmeal...makes the oats a little sweeter, but you don't get the full flavor of the prune juice.

Thank you all for your great suggestions. My dear one doesn't seem to want to go for the dried fruit, but she loves oatmeal so great suggestions about mixing it with prune juice.

...And about my updates - I think I seriously messed up my feeds (I'm so low-tech) which may be the problem. You may need to resubscribe, if I may be so bold to suggest!

I am so not green and always go for chemicals. Miralax will work wonders for your little one's bowels. Add in lots of water, fresh or cooked spinach, and Activia. Happy pooping lil' greenies.
