A Green Works for Me Wednesday

Today I'm joining my first blog carnival: Works for Me Wednesday hosted by Rocks in My Dryer! Every Wednesday, bloggers post a teeny tidbit describing something that...well, you guessed it...works for them.

Of course, I have to stay true to my blog's niche (love that word) so let me share a way in which I made my daughter's recent birthday a little big greener. On the invitation I expressly asked that attendees bring regifted gifts only...and as I've mentioned before, Sprout could not have been happier with what she received: tons of books, a pair of pink crocs, some new toys that our neighbors had received as gifts and had never opened, and some cold hard cash, which I guess is cheating a little bit, but hey...that's a regift wouldn't you agree? Sprout was happy and so was I knowing that we received some perfectly good toys that were just no longer the toy a la mode for our family and friends.

Good for you!

Thanks for sharing--I'm excited to find your blog and do a little browsing!

That's a great idea. :) It saves double green in both cash and the environment from the onslaught of packaging. I love it!

But I have to ask if anyone was offended/weirded out by that? I could easily see my inlaws taking it as insulting no matter how much I tried to explain.

I think this is such a fun idea!

I love this idea! I usually just say don't worry about gifts but then people will bring it anyway. This way at least you can encourage people to think a little harder and reuse something!

Hey, the cash is green AND it's recirculated many times...so not cheating in my opinion. :)

Great idea. My kids have so many things they don't play with anymore or have never even opened up.

Thanks to all of you for visiting! It's great having you stop by! Mommy Babble - no, not a single person was offended or weirded out (well...at least no one told me!), but I think it probably has to do with my daughter's age - she is too young to *ask* for anything or really want anything in particular so any present was just icing on the cake (no pun intended!). I need to take a lesson from her! :) My in-laws did buy her a small figurine which was brand new, but these figurines are something special that I am hoping they will buy for her each year, so of course I would never turn that kind of gift down. The figurines will go on a shelf for "special things" when she's a little bit older.
