No, Seriously. The Dishwasher is Dead.

We are being given $240 by our home warrenty company to buy a new dishwasher and even with the debate over handwash versus dishwash, we are going to take the money and run. So where do I start?

EnergyStar.gov has some good information, but then they go ahead and give me a list of recommendations like this. Now wadja have to go and do a thing like that?

Thankfully, TreeHugger came through with some suggestions on how to green your dishwasher. And then there's ye olde Consumer Reports to help is in our final decision.

Any advice? I've got some research to do, kids!

consumer reports is a good place to compare...but i wold say....a washer with a "short" energy saver cycle. (that's the cycle we always use) nothing more than 45 min. for sure! and check the gallons of water used. don't buy an extended warrenty contract!...we have always bought from sears..house brand kenmore.....seems like you have some good information already:)

I like the energy saver cycle with the heated drying cycle turned off. If the dishwasher is full, it is actually more water-efficient than sink-washing. I like my Whirlpool; we repaired our last one several times before needing to replace it.

we bought one that cost more for a stainless steel interior. the steel keeps the hot water very hot so it cleans more efficiently and uses less energy to keep it hot. so i really like that part. pet peeve of mine: we also went for the stainless steel exterior. big mistake. it's a magnet for greasy kid finger prints. pain in the behind to keep clean!
